TI-99/4A UNIX99 development continues

This is just a little update:

What is currently being worked on:

- GCC

- UNIX99 BASIC

- Memory management

- printer management

New features:

- Creation of a ROM-only version of Unix99 that boots and directly loads a user-specified program. This allows developers to use the Unix99 development and all of its features to create programs/games and then distribute them as a FinalGROM image, without the need for users to set up a Unix99 environment. The programs can be developed while running inside Unix99 in BASIC or C, or using Unix99's cross-compiler dev environment. The programs are copied into spare ROM pages. Still some cleanup and testing to go, but appears to be solid.

- sin and cos per the Unix API (double angle, double return) and fast integer based versions.

- DELSPRITE subprogram for BASIC

-------

weird quirks:

-l is the only flag that works with the ls command.

New update on EZ document tools

I have released an update on the command line tool EzReLiEd.  New version is 1.0.3.

EzReLiED is a search and replace line editor that works on many platforms (tested on Linux, Windows, MacOSX, and UNIX99) and is geared for documents that are usually text, EzMF, or HTML based.

I will have the new source to the whole suite published hopefully this weekend under GPL 2 license.

When I have a satisfactory UNIX99 development environment, I will release certain apps with UNIX99 binaries also.

More thoughts on UNIX99

UNIX99 for the TI-99/4A may be my favorite software/OS for 2026 so far. The OS has continued to be updated. As of writing this, April 9th, 2026 was the last update. I'm quite impressed with it. Enough, that I'm going to start helping by porting apps to the OS. For example, SED is not bundled with it. That tool is must for me. A real world work tool for me... at least in my career.

Unix99

It has been a minute since I posted.  A lot I have been wanting to post, but have not.  Been knee deep in coding and Greek studies.  But there is something that really caught my eye. A new Unix for the TI-99/4A called Unix99.

Prerequisites

The Unix99 runtime environment can be used in an emulation environment (Classic99 and MAME) and
on physical hardware.

Unix99 execution requires the following emulated or real hardware at a minimum:
• TI-99 console, providing CPU, graphics, VRAM and sound
• 32KB RAM
• At least one persistent storage device (TIPI, WDSx, IDEx, SCSx, DSK1/Classic99)
• Programmable GROM hardware, such as FinalGROM, that provides a host for the Unix99 ROM

Additional supported TI-99 hardware:
• Speech synthesizer
• PICO9918 and F18A
• SAMS memory card
• RS232 and Parallel I/O
• External USB mouse (TIPI required)
• External USB keyboard (TIPI required)
The development environment requires:
• Linux or MacOS
• Docker Desktop
